The Manufacturer's Board Game Review of Iron Dragon:

Fantasy and reality meet in this exciting offshoot of our popular game system. A must for any Empire fan looking for a new twist!

Science, fantasy, and trains mix in the popular game of fun and finances, Iron Dragon. Players lay track across a mythical realm filled with wizards, elves, and rainbow bridges. Genetically-engineered dragons pull boxcars loaded with jewels, magical items, and other treasures from city to city. Dangerous jungles must be crossed, rivers forged, and orcs bribed, as players plan routes and amass money in an attempt to create a fantasy empire. Building foremen (elves, dwarves, nomes) enable you to build across the world and make every game a new adventure through unknown territory.

Rainy Day Game's Board Game Review of Iron Dragon:

Iron DragonWe really looked forward to playing the Iron Dragon board game at Rainy Day Games. The chance to play the award-winning Empire Builder game series set in a fantasy world was exciting. And this board game certainly didn't disappoint us.

The first thing you notice is that the options have expanded in Iron Dragon, offering the players more strategies and complexities to consider. In the Iron Dragon board game, there are no less than 8 different kinds of train, with different speed levels as well. There are also many more types of terrain to cross, as well as an underground section, and even ferries to carry your train on the open sea.

One of the biggest changes to the rules in Iron Dragon is the addition of railroad foremen, who can help your rail building. Depending on the race of your foreman, you'll get bonuses. For example, if your foreman is one of the "cat-people", you can build through jungle terrain very cheaply. Changing your foreman, although costly, can definitely affect the economics that your strategy rests upon.

We find that the greater variety in terrain, trains, races, and other rules in Iron Dragon make for a richer gaming experience than the original Empire Builder. And of course the fantasy theme is popular with many gamers. If you already own other games in this great series but would like to try something new, the Iron Dragon board game may be just what your looking for. Even more, if you've stayed away from this series in the past because dry historical period settings don't appeal to you, Iron Dragon is the game that will finally make you a convert to the Empire Builder series.
