Rainy Day Game's Card Game Review of Bohnanza:

Bohnanza in Summary

The Bohnanza card game has created a lot of buzz since it was first released, and there's a great reason for it. Bohnanza is one of the most addictive card games you'll ever play. It's a game that encourages lots of trading and negotiation amoung the players, and we love games like that. The Bohnanza card game will get your group talking and laughing. And as a bonus, it takes just 45 minutes to play and can be played by a large group up to 7 players!

Bohnanza Gameplay

The Bohnanza card game has a really unique mechanic: you must play your cards in the order you recieve them. Each Bohnanza player gets two fields in which to plant their bean cards. A field can only hold one kind of bean at a time. If you can plant enough beans of one type in a field, you can harvest the field and get gold for them beans. Bohnanza!

On your turn, first you must plant one or two cards from your hand. If your fields have beans in them, you can add beans of the same type. But if you can't match the type of bean, you have to harvest the field first. A lot of times you have to harvest before you've planted enough cards, and you get no gold for the harvest!

Next you turn over two cards, and you can plant, trade, or just give them away, but they must be planted right away. If you can't get rid of them, you have to plant them yourself, even if that means you have to harvest your fields for no gold. And finally, you take three more cards and add them to the back of your hand.

Play passes to the next player, and the Bohnanza card game ends when you've gone through the deck 3 times. The player with the most gold takes the trophy.

Who should buy Bohnanza?

It's probably obvious that the Bohnanza card game is a little silly. The cards are designed with humour in mind, and the gameplay encourages a lot of wheeling and dealing. In my group that means a game of Bohnanza always has lots of laughing and joking. So, if you're interesting in getting a serious game, we have other ones you'll like more. But if a fun, interactive card game is what you want, then definitely buy the Bohnanza card game.

The Manufacturer's Card Game Review of Bohnanza:

This great card game is about planting, trading, and selling beans - 11 kinds of beans (this English version includes all the cards from the original game and the first expansion). Players try to collect large sets of beans to sell for gold. There is limited growing space and always new beans to plant. To avoid planting unwanted beans, players trade them to other players who want them for their bean fields.
