The Manufacturer's Board Game Review of Eurorails:

Based on the award-winning Empire Builder game system, Eurorails allows players to amass fortune and power by picking up commodities from cities that produce them and delivering them to cities that need them. Efficient rail lines and effective laying of track means larger fortunes for the players.

Players use erasable crayons to lay track between major European cities and use the European Currency unit (ECu) as money to purchase routes. The coated gameboard allows players to draw routes between the cities and still be able to wipe the board clean after every game.

Rainy Day Game's Board Game Review of Eurorails:

EurorailsRailroads have fascinated people for over a century the world over. Building your own railroad empire comes to your kitchen table in the Eurorails board game. Occurring on a map of Europe, players rush commodities around Europe over their rail lines in an attempt to accumulate wealth and power. The first player to make a fortune AND a rail network that extends across all of Europe is the winner.

Stretching a rail line across the continent requires skill and strategy. Although Eurorails is relatively easy to play, you'll find yourself strapped for cash quickly unless you carefully consider the economics of each kilometer you build. Those who build strictly to satisfy short-term demand will find themselves with a lot of expensive track that doesn't produce any income. This board game strongly favors the player who can orchestrate a greater strategy while dealing with the day-to-day managing of their empire. Purists will appreciate that the map reflects the actual geography and distribution of industries in Europe, but those of us who couldn't really care about realism can comfortably ignore the educational aspects and just have fun.

Without a doubt, the unique mechanic is a part of this board game's charm. Players are given crayons to actually draw their track on the board surface, which is wiped clean between games. Eurorails can be a major undertaking, and we've had one session run more than 4 hours. After that marathon, we've adopted the "quick game" set of rules as our standard operating procedure. Still, expect to spend up to 3 hours on this game. The Eurorails board game definitely provides a full afternoon's entertainment.
